The Centre Of Attention - POL Magazine February 1980

Stunning Australian fashion here by YA-YA Oblique, of which I could not find a scrap of information about, unfortunately, but that's what I love about finding these magazines - the showcasing of independent Australian designers of the time.  I love the use of shapes in the clothes and seriously want the entire outfit in the last shot (oh and probably all of the other ones too).

  1. OOh, Great to see this article of my work posted here. Thank you. Ya Ya was my fashion label (1978-1995) and now the name of my design studio, as I now make a broader spectrum of artworks. For this photo shoot we all flew to Uluru, (self funded) - photographer Grant Matthews, model - Lisa Allwood, hairdressers from ClipJoint and myself. Lots of fun. The Blue and Black "Pagoda Dress" was bought by the Art Gallery of South Australia for their collection.

    1. Oh WOW! I was hoping by tagging the label, I'd find more information out.

How wonderful, may I say your clothes are bloody amazing.

Where are the rest of the clothes? They all deserve to be in art galleries.

  2. In my bottom draw I still have my beautiful Ya Ya jumper (Black Blue & Purple mohair) and my wife still has her black & yellow striped one, however my much earlier punk shirt from '79 white collared shirt with stencilled target & 'I shot the Prime Minister' on the back (a comment on the Fraser administration0 is sadly merely a memory... Annabelle was my favourite designer!
    Cheers
    Geoffrey

    1. How fab! Those are collector's pieces indeed. Your wife should hang on to that baby for sure.
