Okay, so back when I was a pre-teen, Alison Brahe (the cover model for this issue) was the bees knees.  She was consistently voted most popular model, and she had the knack to be both approachable and drop dead gorgeous at the same time.  She ended up marrying Cameron Daddo and upon googling her, I have come to find out she and Cameron did an interview with New Idea saying they were broke and suffering from marriage problems - oh dear!

The model in this fashion spread I also remember a lot from Dolly issues of this early 90's era, and her name is Annabel.  I do have a soft spot for the early 90's revival of the 60's flower power prints and swing tops and dresses, oh and I can't not mention the SUPREMELY 90's guy holding the boom box hahahaha.

  1. Hi Maryanne I've just stumbled across your blog and its like reliving my teen years! Loving it! Please keep posting!

My first 2 "girl crushes" were actually Alison Brahe and the other model in this post, who was actually named Angelique. Both were Dolly regulars and I loved them both!

Thanks again for a great blog :)

  2. Hi Vanessa,

Thanks soo much for the comment, and yes I'll keep on posting (it helps when you get a bit of encouragement). Oh yes Angelique, her name sounds so familiar then, and yes they were regulars around then (aka my teenage years).

    :D

  3. Hi Maryanne! My name is Roxan and I used to be the fashion assistant at Dolly Magazine in the early 90"s. I never kept the issues I worked on so Im glad I've come across your site. I assisted on many fashion shoots with Alison Brahe and I remember Angelique as well! Could you possibly post some more photos of Dolly Magazine from that year? I used to take care of the MAKE IT page and WHATS NEW page. Did a few of my own stories and even modelled for a knitwear shoot! I assisted Carlotta Moye. Thanks!

  4. Hi Roxan,

Oh WOW .... that is so utterly cool. What a fantastic job you had - it must have been so much fun!

Yes I have seen Carlotta Moye in many of the issues, and remember her from the time. I just had a look through the 20th year anniversary issue of Dolly from November 1990, and I found a spread that had Dolly staff members modelling - and lo and behold you are there! I shall scan it in and upload it next!! Lovely to hear from you, Maryanne

  6. Angelique! Thanks for stopping by, I totally remember you from the time and thought you were an amazing model. The early 90's was the height of when I was buying Dolly and you were in so many issues !

  7. What an amazing blog!!! Love it! Thank you for posting all of this! I stumbled across you looking for an old Dolly mag where it had a competition where a reader won a lunch with Alison Brahe. A very good friend of mine was the winner haha and pics of the lunch were featured in the Dolly mag. I have been trying to track a record of it somewhere. It would have had to be in 1991 I think. Would you have the Dolly mag that featured that comp by any chance?

    1. In my case I did keep my issues and had them in storage in the garage and specifically told my dad never to throw them out, and guess what happened, he chucked them out! Hence my Dolly collection addiction!! hehehe

  11. Hi Maryanne,

I am trying to surprise a friend of mine by finding the issue we became penfriends over but when I search penfriends nothing comes up, can you please tell me on any issue of a 1991 magazine what the page was called for finding a penfriend? Fingers crossed! Would love to surprise her for her 40th! But I know its like a needle in a haystack. We were 14!
