A Different Accent - Dolly April 1984


Hope you enjoy this somewhat risqué feature from April 1984 Dolly as modelled by Sarah Nursey and photographed by Greg Barrett.  I am crazy for the look with the chains.. I'd love to try to do that makeup for myself, and the rag look with the checkered fabric is so so stunning!!!!

    I love it! Back in the day I was forever trying to emulate these looks! I would root around in Army Disposal stores trying to find the bits and pieces. I went out one night looking like an absolute pork chop......well, probably more than one....
    Keep these flashbacks coming and tell those young folks to get their own fashion!

    Back when fashion magazines had guts (and balls!) Dolly definitely did back then. Now unfortunately, they all look exactly the same.

    My name is Emily and I'm a HSC student currently undertaking my Personal Interest Project for Society and Culture. My topic is "The Effect of Representations of Role Models on Australian-Asian Youth"
    I am undertaking a content analysis looking at current Dolly Magazines as opposed to older magazines and discovering how asian representations have changed over time. I am having a lot of trouble finding any magazines before 2008. I was wondering if it was possible that you suggest areas where I could find Dolly magazines from 1980s-2000s etc, or whether it was possible for you to lend me some. It would be of great help. Thank you so much for your time!

      If you are in a capital city your State Library should hold copies or get your local librarian to help you.
