As promised, here is a selection of advertisements from Cherry Lane.  I tried to look up a bit of information online about them in terms of how long they traded for, but alas found nothing.  The ads don't appear in any issues that I have before '85 though, and judging by the '91 ad here, they went through until the mid 90's perhaps.  I've always found their ads to be interesting and I'm thinking they specialised in cotton separates.

  1. WOW thanks Maryanne!! This is my era for sure! Grandpa tees.. Floral..So great to see these again! From memory you're right about the dates. I remember a huge store in the Brisbane mall but I stopped going and one day just realised they weren't around anymore.

    1. They had a huge store in Double Bay Sydney. I loved CHerry Lane. I cut up the catalogues and stuck the pictures in my Year 9 Diary.

  2. My favourite shot I think is the floral one, but I am also partial to the swing dress look with the daisy hat.

  4. Maryanne, Cherry Lane was an Australian chain - kind of an aussie Esprit equivalent. The Miss GeeBee shop at Grace Bros stocked a lot of it - not so much David Jones who carried more Esprit, Diesel, Time and Country Road...Cherry Lane did not last much longer past 1990 - 91...Stock filtered around for another few years, bought cheap in receivership sales presumably. Cherry Lane just before closing did attempt to expand with Cherry Lane stores - large like supre is now, supre was just coming on the scene then and really looked like a $2 shop of clothing....Stretch knits , especially the grandpa were their specialty - perfect for our denim over sized overalls which was my "window dresser" uniform!

    1. Oh wow, great information Miss Prudence. I remember Supre when it started out as well - the clothes were sooo crappy - loads of polyester blends in there!

  5. Loved the shop in Cavill Mall, Surfers, us Gold Coasters lived in their stuff, especially their shorts and Live Fast tees.
