Putting On The Glitz - Dolly December 1989
A really vibrant and eclectic spread from this December 1989 issue of Dolly - on the cusp of the 90's. I love the glamour of a spot of sequin in an outfit (and I'm not talking the tacky kind) and my particular favourites are the gold sequin skirt and black sequin top by Morrissey and Edmiston (back when they were a fashion duo before they had gone their separate ways). I read a lot of issues of Dolly during the early 90's and remember Dinosaur Designs jewellery featuring heavily in their pages, although they were faar too expensive for me of course! They're still going and they're kinda still too expensive for me unfortunately as I do love their stuff.

Here's Lucy - Dolly Magazine December 1989
It's been quite a while since I've posted some late 80's Dolly editorials, and I've been meaning to post this I Love Lucy inspired one for ages! It's so fabulous - from the furniture, through to every last detail including the clothing credits being displayed in the fashion of the popular sunburst clocks of the 50's.

A Sunburnt Country - Dolly January 1989

I'm not really the outdoorsy type, but there is something about how this Sunburnt Country spread is shot that I really love. It is shot by the same photographer as the cover photo, and stars the Covergirl contest winner of 1989 - Natalie Kirk who was all of 13 years of age at this point! The outfits she's wearing on their own are unremarkable, but have been styled really well to fit the earthy theme.

Double Trouble - Boy Oh Boy Dolly Special

Dolly Special (Year approx 1988-89) Models Simon, Anika & Matt Photography Warwick Orme |
I'm not too sure of the date for this Dolly Special, but judging by the brogues in this feature, my guess is '88 - '89. The models here are Shaun and Carla, with photography by Marco Franchina. Speaking of the brogues in this spread, I see they are from Succhi and I remember it being located in Melbourne Central (in Victoria that is) when it first opened, and their shoes were sooo fabulous with striking designs and very high quality. Of course I could not afford their shoes, but used to go in and browse the array.

Scarlet Woman - Dolly July 1989

The statuesque Anneliese Seubert features in this Scarlet Woman editorial from Dolly. I really like the styling here and would wear most if not all of the pieces in it still. The anorak coat from Morrissey and Edmiston (back when they were a team) is gorgeous teamed with the sheer polka dot tights, and I love the bee-hive hair-do.

What's good (and not-so-good) about Australia Dolly Australia Special (Year Unknown - probably 85-86) |
My personal favourite image is the Philips Sunpanel advertisement. It's such a blast from the past - the days when you wanted to tan 24-7 - even when in bed!
I'm not sure I agree with the good/bad list of Australian things, like Brian Canham being bad - noooo way! I guess by this point though perhaps Pseudo Echo may have been considered passe. Although I think I'm with them on the whole budgie poo being bad! Oh and Skippy being good - aaaabsolutely, love me a bit of Skippy the bush kangaroo!
Anyway, enjoy the post and the day, me true blue mates out there!
