Short Cuts - Dolly July 1981

July 1981 Model Jenny Coupland Make-up Petrina Devlin Photography Wal Easton |
Mini mania hits 1981 in this Short Cuts fashion spread from Dolly Magazine July 1981. Photography by John Pinfold. This whole spread is exactly what I love about the early 80's - ballet flats, moccasins, colourful hosiery and just overall cuteness. To me, ballet flats now just do not compare to 80's ballet shoes for some reason..

Jenny Kee Feature
I picked up an Australian Women's Weekly book of knitting patterns today, and was pleasantly surprised to see some Jenny Kee knits in there! So what better opportunity than to put up a little article on her I found in Vogue Australia of July 1982 discussing how she ended up doing a line of scarves with her designs on them. It is quite interesting, and it's fabulous that she's still selling her scarves on her website as she is an Australian fashion icon.

Party Pieces - Dolly July 1982
After a hiatus, here's a new post to signal more regular posts from here on in! This spread is soo up my alley - I mean knicker bockers, frills, taffeta, sashes and luxe gold accents not to mention the David Bowie cameo. Adore.

Katie Pye Advertisement - POL Magazine July 1981
What a rarity - a Katie Pye advertisement! Katie Pye is an Australian fashion designer and I first became familiar with her clothes through an exhibition that was held at NGV in 2007/2008. She also designed the clothes featured in the Australian band Pseudo Echo's clip Listening.

Oranges and Lemons - Dolly July 1986
Graham Shearer has done it again! A gorgeous citrus themed spread with lots of unconventional layering. Clothing highlight for me would be the cropped orange bomber jacket. Unfortunately the model's name isn't listed here, if anyone knows, let me know and I'll credit her.

History Comes Out Of The Closet - POL Magazine July 1981
I have New Romantic fever! Featuring gorgeous frills, knicker-bockers, organza and bows galore! I tell you these POL magazines I dug up are quite the gems! Oh and by the way, I will be able to commit to more regular postings as I've fiiinally completed my Grad Dip as of yesterday! :D

Hand Painting - POL Magazine July 1981
Shock horror! A new post! I've been a little busy lately, but am going to try and aim for at least 3 posts a week from this point on! I managed to find another POL Magazine the other day and was instantly struck by this mini-editorial. Photography is by Chris Lemech, and clothes by the label Random Factor. A simply gorgeous visually striking look, and the cover shot of the issue is so mysterious in a New Romantic kinda way.

Esprit Advertisement - Vogue Australia July 1982
A quick mini post as I'm a little sick with a cold .... thought I'd satisfy the masses with this one seeing as the Esprit advertisements are always one of the most popular posts on here.
I really like this one, but am questioning the need to have the topless guy in the centre!
