Spot ... Stop - Dolly October 1985

I love love love the pastel ice-cream colours in this spread popping out from the black and white image - so iconic.  Photography by Andrew Southam and unfortunately the model is not credited.  Favourite image has to be the close up of the Ray-Ban-esque sunglasses and the Madonna style head wrap.

K-Mart Hi-Time Fashion Advertisement - Dolly October 1987

A cute little ad showcasing a range of watches at K-Mart (some looking remarkably like copies of Swatches...).  This came from the October issue of Dolly from 1987.

Hang Ten Advertisement - Dolly October 1982

Hang Ten - 1982 style.  It was cool to see that they weren't just a surf/beach brand back then, and they actually did have more formal separates like the white shirt red pant combo.  I don't think they're still stocked in Australia any longer, but I'm sure if they were the designs wouldn't be as cool as these!

Ojay Advertisement - Dolly October 1982

I absolutely adore this advertisement from the Australian retail clothing chain Ojay.  In the early 80's editions of Dolly, Ojay fashions featured quite heavily and their fashions were cute and du jour.  It was quite sad to hear recently that they have been put in the hands of administrators (meaning they're closing) but it's kind of not that hard to see why.  Unfortunately I didn't find their fashions to be all that exciting lately - I guess they were targeting an older demographic - I just wish they would have stayed as cool as this ad!

Smooth Sailing - Dolly October 1981

October 1981
Model Jenine Clarke
Make-up Petrina Devlin
Photographer Bob Donaldson

A fun and frivolous nautical themed spread here with photography by Bob Donaldson.  It's obviously very silly, but I happen to miss this kind of silliness in fashion nowadays!

Greek Goddess - Dolly October 1990

October 1990
Models Alison Jones & Alison Brahe
Photography Michael Schenko

I don't think I've scanned in this cover before, and it is far too cute to leave unseen!  I quite like this lurex and lamé themed spread set in picturesque Greece.  Styled by Carlotta Moye and with photography by Michael Schenko, some of the outfits kinda remind me of Prince - and that's a good thing!

Bustin' Out - Dolly October 1990

The bustier was definitely an early 90's must-have item of clothing.  It reminds me of watching Video Hits in the morning which was full of clips by Toni Pearan and Melissa Tkautz.  This spread features two Alison models - Alison Brahe and Alison Jones, a Greek local boy and of course the star of the shots - the donkey!  So cute!

Erupting Into Summer - POL Magazine October 1979

Photographer Gilbert Rossi
Model Belinda Seper

I am a huge fan of space-age stylings, and this spread is certainly one to add to the collection.  Shot by Gil Gilbert in the stunning surrounds of Hawaii, it provides for a stark, almost apocalyptic vision of the future filled with neon leotards and barren wasteland.

Racey Ladies - Dolly October 1980

October 1980
Model Melissah Hannan
Photography John Pinfold

I suppose I should have posted this spread during the Grand Prix that was on in Melbourne recently (which I actually am not into at all) but if it looked like this I think I'd like it!  It's jump suit mania in this feature, with a lot of Ojay wares on show.

Prue Acton for SAAB 900 Turbo - Vogue magazine October 1979

Photography Claude Mougin

I recently acquired a bunch of Vogue magazines, so thought I'd add a post here from one of the issues.  I simply adore a futurist themed shoot back when it was thought the future would be cool (it's more boring now than back then I think!).  This Prue Acton for SAAB shoot reminds me a lot of one of the pictures from this Sheila magazine issue from 1980.  It's funny how dated the car looks next to the 'futuristic' wares.
