The What's In section in Dolly's was always the go-to to find out how the newest trends overseas would be incorporated into the fashions in Australia.  They always had amazing illustrations in them and I'm going to be doing a post for every year that I have of the Dolly issues.  Unfortunately I don't have all of the 1980 issues, but here is what I have.  As these illustrations are uncredited, if anyone can enlighten me as to who did them, I would be eternally grateful.  I adore adore the mod look from the June issue, but really all of them are gorgeous.

A Parisian Eye View Of Summer - POL Magazine January 1980

A stunning little feature from POL Magazine of January 1980 (the year and month I was born) featuring the latest from the Parisian high fashion catwalks.  I simply adore the black and white Montana look - the makeup on the model is pure perfection.  Photography in this piece is by Pierre Vauthey.

Jungle Prints On The Prowl - Vogue Australia November 1980

A jungle-riffic spread featuring Sue Smithers as one of the models (with the beauty spot), I'm not sure who the others are unfortunately.  My favourite image is the little picture of the Prue Acton Girl Friday dress in the bottom right hand corner of the last image.

Glomesh Covers Lifestyles Summer 1980 - POL Magazine

All the glory of Glomesh handbags lie here before you!  The tightly wound curls as worn by the models are really cute I think - it has the potential to look daggy, but I don't think it's crossed the line.

The Centre Of Attention - POL Magazine February 1980

Stunning Australian fashion here by YA-YA Oblique, of which I could not find a scrap of information about, unfortunately, but that's what I love about finding these magazines - the showcasing of independent Australian designers of the time.  I love the use of shapes in the clothes and seriously want the entire outfit in the last shot (oh and probably all of the other ones too).

One Jump Ahead - POL Magazine February 1980

Now that I have my fancy new A3 scanner, I can finally upload some fabulous shots from my POL magazine collection.  The fashion in this piece is by Nila O.  The only information I could see online about her was possibly her now being a fashion illustration teacher at Sydney Community College - it seems possible!  I see these looks as being mime artist crossed with jockey and I like it!

There's some more amazing fashion from this issue that I'll post tomorrow.

I suppose I should have posted this spread during the Grand Prix that was on in Melbourne recently (which I actually am not into at all) but if it looked like this I think I'd like it!  It's jump suit mania in this feature, with a lot of Ojay wares on show.

Lights, Cameras ... Acton! - Pol magazine 1980

I bought a stack of magazines just a couple of days ago called 'POL'.  Knowing absolutely nothing about them, I was instantly struck by the covers and then the fashion editorials inside.  I had a bit of a look on wikipedia just now to see if it had any information and found this but I'm not sure it's the same magazine as it says it ceased publication by 1971 and the issues I have are 1979 - 1982.  Hmmm.... the plot thickens.  Anyway, here's a gorgeous Prue Acton spread with photography from Greg Barrett who has done shoots with Sheila magazine and Dolly also that I have shown here (as per the link on his name).  I adore the final photo - it reminds me of a Patrick Nagel portrait.

Lancome/Sportsgirl/David Lawrence - Vogue Australia November 1980

I find this spread really intriguing as I never knew Lancome was sold at Sportsgirl (and not to mention Sportsgirl had a Beauty Shop)!  I'd love to hear from anyone who can remember.  I notice accessories here are from Sportsgirl, and I'm sure I've seen the rosette earrings there lately - at least some things never change.
