The Spy Who Loved Me - Dolly December 1984

Hope you enjoy this post from the end of 1984 as modelled by Annette... I'm not sure who the photographer of this feature was unfortunately, as it's strangely not credited.  I really like the second photo with the see through raincoat paired with checkers and stripes.  I've noticed that Jendi - the makers of that coat are actually still around making fashion accessories!

Leichner Make-Up Advertisement - Dolly December 1983

A mini post today, but it's quality over quantity with this faaabulous Leichner make-up advertisement.  The model is very familiar, I am sure her name appears somewhere in my pile of Dolly's, and when I find it I'll update this with the info.

Reef Tan Advertisement - Dolly December 1982

This is one of those ads that appeared in almost every Dolly issue during the early 80's.  It's just so funny how it tries to depict the couple without the Reef tan as dorky whereas those with the glistening Reef tans are having the time of their lives!  I like how obvious advertising was back then actually!

Christmas - Time To Light Up - Dolly December 1982

Merry Christmas (1982 style of course) !  I think my absolute favourite look is the purple dress with the gorgeous neck ruffle in the fourth image, as a matter of fact I might try and replicate that look for the big day tomorrow!!

Bright Alternatives - Dolly December 1983

Hope you enjoy this spread from December 1983 - on the cusp of 1984!  I love love love the shot of the model with the scarf over her eyes - a very Arabian influence.  And I must mention Graham Shearer as always the photographic genius.

16 Candles Advertisement - 1984

For your enjoyment this cool pop art style advertisement for the famous John Hughes film 16 Candles starring the 80's darling herself Molly Ringwald!

Lindy Lane Advertisement - Dolly December 1986

Sticking to my pledge of doing at least an image a day - here's an advertisement for the clothing brand Lindy Lane.  Their clothes and ads were featured quite a lot in Dolly - especially from 1986 onwards and I just thought this ad was eye catching.  Enjoy!

Putting On The Glitz - Dolly December 1989

A really vibrant and eclectic spread from this December 1989 issue of Dolly - on the cusp of the 90's.  I love the glamour of a spot of sequin in an outfit (and I'm not talking the tacky kind) and my particular favourites are the gold sequin skirt and black sequin top by Morrissey and Edmiston (back when they were a fashion duo before they had gone their separate ways).  I read a lot of issues of Dolly during the early 90's and remember Dinosaur Designs jewellery featuring heavily in their pages, although they were faar too expensive for me of course!  They're still going and they're kinda still too expensive for me unfortunately as I do love their stuff.

Here's Lucy - Dolly Magazine December 1989

It's been quite a while since I've posted some late 80's Dolly editorials, and I've been meaning to post this I Love Lucy inspired one for ages!  It's so fabulous - from the furniture, through to every last detail including the clothing credits being displayed in the fashion of the popular sunburst clocks of the 50's.

Dolly/Leichner Cover Girl Contest Winner - Dolly December 1982

As requested here is the article from the December 1982 issue featuring the 1982 Cover Girl Winner Toni O'Donoghue.  Often with these contests, it is not who wins who ends up making it big, but one of the runners up and in this case I noticed a familiar face - that being Natalie McCurry who in the last photo is second from the right.  She starred in this film in 1986 (which I am dying to see) and I'm sure was in an ad for either ruffles chips or ferrero chocolate but I can't quite remember!

Let it Rip - Dolly December 1982

December 1982
Model Toni O'Donoghue (Leichner Cover Girl Winner)
Photography Bob Donaldson

The photography in this let it Rip spread is credited to Hans Feurer (a very intimidating sounding name) and it is just fab!  It's kinda like 101 ways to wear a T-shirt with so many inventive ideas!  I can't say I've seen this look recycled at all as compared with a lot of other supremely 80's looks ... I'd like the torn cottons to do a bit of a revival... hmmm on second thoughts maybe not, as revivals usually end up a cheap and pale imitation from the original anyway.
